Guide to Lighting up on the Course with Golfing Cigars

Puffing on your favorite cigars while putting is one of life's finer and more calming pleasures, but there are certain laws to follow or you might be penalized or worse, kicked out of your golf club!

• Show consideration for people around you. If someone seems to be bothered by the cigar smoke billowing about them, step away or put it out and wait for a better moment to fire it up — just remember to purge!

• Pass the golfing cigar around. Why not bring a couple extra and share them with your pals if you're playing with them? They could say no, but at least you asked!

• All golf courses have regulations that are enforced for the greens, clubhouse, and amenities. If you don't have one, a tiny sandwich bag with a moist flannel will serve and keep your smokes fresh. If smoking is prohibited, follow the regulations and wait until thereafter to light up.

• It's important to think about others; if a group of seniors is waiting for you to tee off, they won't want to wait in a cloud of wonderful cigar smoke. The same may be said for the youngsters who are becoming more common on the golf course.

• Golf is known for its beautiful greens; don't spoil them by stubbling your cigars on the course or setting them down when putting. This might burn the grass and squander the inordinate amount of time spent by the green keepers.
